..:: WHAT IS BREAKFORMS ::..

BREAKFORMS is the new addition to this yearly festival. This, the third night of the festival, will focus its attention on the sounds of Breaks, Funk, Electro and Hip Hop.

..:: WHAT IS THE MIDFORMS FESTIVAL ::..

Midforms Festival 09 (MFF) is a 3-day Digital Culture Festival co-produced by the New Forms Media Society and presented as part of the Cultural Olympiad. MFF facilitates a curatorial design that encourages artists and participants alike to engage and discover the trans-disciplinary genres new media art has to offer. There are two components; the main exhibition called Shell and the Sound and Visual Series.

Shell is a fresh concept for digital culture proliferation. Housed in the Shell are the inaugural Perl Series (custom built structures showcasing a genre of New Media Art) along with Visual Sound Lounge and roaming performance artists.

The Sound and Visual Series explores the edges of visual and audio design. Acclaimed electronic music producers and visual artists showcase the cutting edge in an underground dance environment. The nights include: Mosaic Sounds (Global Fusion), Techforms (Tech and Minimal) and BREAKFORMS (Breaks and HipHop).

SOUL OF MAN, UK - www.fingerlickin.co.uk / www.myspace.com/thesoulofman

You may have been lucky enough to catch Justin at Shambhala a few years ago, where he devastated the Fractal Forest. Or perhaps you caught him up in Whistler for his Freshtraxx tour. As co-founder/owner of the worlds largest Breaks label Fingerlickin Records and with his finger on the pulse of all the newest of new music, he will not disappoint.

Justin Rushmore alongside partner in crime Jem Panufnik set up the internationally renowned record label Finger Lickin' back in the late nineties. Together they make funk fuelled breaks under the name SOUL OF MAN. Justin was also responsible for setting up the record store VINYL ADDICTION/BAR VINYL. Day to day he can be found in central London behind a desk looking after label mates The Plump DJs, Drumattic Twins, A-Skillz, Slyde, Stereo 8, Krafty Kuts and Brothers Bud. At the weekends he travels the globe! Justin is however, also best known for his party fuelled, rocking DJ sets. Having done his graft as a mobile jock back in the eighties, Justin was soon drawn to the big lights of the metropolis. A few detours around London's orbital - the M25, where the hazy days of acid house parties were all the rage, he discovered an insatiable passion for dance music. Inspired by early Street Sounds electro, house music, funk, soul, and dub, it is no surprise that his eclectic taste can be heard in his knock out sets today.

You can catch the Soul of Man blowing up sound systems regularly at Londons Fabric, and Ministry of Sound; Supercharged in Brighton, Blow Pop in Bristol, plus of course annual appearances out in Ibiza (Space/Eden/Amnesia) as well as hitting the winter season for Snowbombing and Chamonix in France. This year Soul of Man have performed in Slovenia, Latvia, Menorca, Guernsey, Spain and throughout the UK including festival appearances at Glastonbury, Bloom, Get Loaded, Beachdown and Bestival.

Soul Of Maninnovators, influencers and breakbeat instigators.

MYAGI - www.myagimusic.com / www.myspace.com/myagisoleclaw

Myagi aka Andrew Mavor is one of North America's main ambassadors to the world of dance music. From sunrise sets in Australia and packed clubs in the metropolises of China to rocking boat parties in the old heart of Paris, nude beaches in California and a slew of even crazier settings, Myagi's sets have become renowned as one of a kind experiences not to be missed. Just as comfortable on a festival stage as in a club, Myagi's tour schedule sees him through a wide variety of countries each year with nothing but glowing responses. His sound has expanded to include a wide variety of genres, from progressive house and acid to funky breaks and big banging electro, all perfectly fused together to wring sweat out of even the most discerning dance floor. In the studio, Myagi has done remixes for indie bands and hip hop stars, for dance music legends like The Crystal Method and Phil Hartnoll of Orbital, for up and coming artists and for stalwarts of the underground. His music has been in video games, tv shows, films, and nearly every other media format available. He has released over 40 records on various labels through the years, and done exclusive radio sets for shows on the BBC, CBC, JJJ, and innumerable other fm and internet radio stations. His debut album "3 Years Of Sunrise" has been dubbed "an uplifting electronic masterpiece" by DJ Mag earning a 4.5/5, and has been compared to the classic works of acts like Leftfield, BT, or even the Chemical Brothers.

NEIGHBOUR, Calgary AB (performing LIVE) - www.homebreakinrecords.com / www.myspace.com/homebreakin

Hailing from Calgary, Canada, 24 year old Matt Dauncey has provided his irresistible blend of disco breaks, funk, deep house, and electro to hungry ears over the last three years through his label Homebreakin Records. 2008 was a year of collaborations, including co-productions and remix projects featuring such diverse artists as All Good Funk Alliance, Fort Knox Five, JT Donaldson, GIOM, Atnarko, Malente, Jon Delerious, Wax Romeo, OUDA OUDA, DJ Soup and Hoola Hoop, DJ Dav (Kinjo Music, Montreal), Piper Davis (a vancouver-based singer / songwriter), Devon Adams (MC Think Tank), and Homebreakin co-conspirator Cal Bass.

After another landmark year that saw him reach all four corners of North America, Matt is expanding in all directions. A new live stage show has brought his sets to new levels, adding a fourth dimension of skronking guitar riffs, squiggly synth solos, and even live vocals.

His new productions range from dubby, driving deep house to primetime electro-disco bombs; from classic re-edits to in-your-face reworks of funk rarities; and from big-room, no-nonsense bangers to feel-good, hands-in-the-air vocal tracks.

Known for his ability to play hours of his own productions, remixes, and exclusives, he represents the opposite of the blog-driven, mashup hungry, attention-deficit DJing that is so prevalent these days. Neighbour brings energy, talent, and creativity to the table every time he plays -and creates pockets of fanatics wherever he goes.
Check out his most recent release, "Drunk on the Funk" EP on Washington DC's SUPERHIFI imprint - currently receiving huge support from top breaks and house DJs worldwide.
