Shearwaterwith HuskyGeorge Orwell said that writing should be transparent like a clear window pane, says Husky Gawenda, frontman of four-piece band Husky from Melbourne, Australia. Gawenda feels the same way about music. You shouldnt notice the music or the art of it; youre just transported to another place. Husky the band includes folk-inspired Husky Gawenda on vocals and guitar, Gideon Preiss on vocals and keys, Evan Tweedie on vocals and bass, and Luke Collins on drums and percussion. Even though they have varied musical backgrounds, a love for classic pop (Leonard Cohen, Paul Simon, The Doors and The Beach Boys), rich harmonies, and artful songwriting is the common thread that draws them together.Husky enters a new chapter of their career in 2012. Last year they played national sold out headline tours in Australia, following the release of their debut album Forever So, they supported world-class acts including Gotye, Devandra Banhart, and Noah & The Whale and played at some of Australias biggest music festivals. Already in 2012 the band has supported Laura Marling and booked performances at St Jeromes Laneway Festival, SXSW and CMW. The imminent release of Forever So in Europe and North America on seminal label, Sub Pop, marks the start of this next chapter and makes them the first-ever Australian band to be signed by the label. Sub Pop is enamoured with the Melbourne quartet, Husky, says President of Sub Pop Jonathan Poneman. The bands strength rests in its infectious, evocative songs and stirring live performances.
