Monday Night Residency with E.S.P.Seasons, Boom Bip, The White Album & DJ Miss M.E.E.S.P.2011 signaled the birth of a new Los Angeles-based musical triumvirate whose classical training and enthralling sonic automatism drives an experimental and cinematic vision of popular music. Synesthetic, synth-laden dreamscapes, literally popping with hypercolored visuals, this is E.S.P, the sights, sounds and sensory overload of the West Coast cosmos. The brother / sister combo of Aska and Seiya Matsumiya (keyboards / vocals & keyboards / electronics, respectively) are joined by dear friend Bobby Evans (drums & electronics). The catalyst and dynamics of the band as natural as the groups synergy and soaring late night anthems of E.S.Ps debut EP.E.S.Ps hypnotic flow made bi-coastal live debuts in New York and Los Angeles alongside a mesmerizing session for LAs dublab radio. Showcasing the mystical yet earthy abstracts of Dark Panda, the awesome bubbling bass and tribal flow of Wonder Wonder and the pounding drums and vivacious, new wave synths of Serenade. The innate, anthemic energy of the band is embodied in the self-referential E.S.P, a stunning instrumental track whose syncopated drums and vibrant warmth conjures an inspired escapism that actually grounds the band into this reality.SeasonsThe sound: On fresh material such as Light, Lost and Of Our Discontent, Seasons crafts airy, spacious guitar rock. With local producer Raymond Richards on the boards (Local Natives), the groups latest EP is full of polished touches. This Highland Park based band plays a tender yet voluminous brand of indie rock, combining winding guitar riffs and Colin Meloy-esque vocals with a veritable forest of carefully arranged flourishes. The synthesizers, keyboards, percussion, and violin never overpower the basic emotional appeal that runs throughout the newest EP instead serving to create a sweetly melancholy atmosphere in which you can easily float away. The random: For their Of Our Discontent video, the band nabbed actress Mahaley Manning, best known for mean-girling poor Emma Stone in Easy A.The details: Seasons music is available now digitally on Bandcamp. The band will release their new EP Autumn on Overhead Records January 2nd at The Echo where they will also host a residency there for that month. Each week in January the band will be playing a different EP in its entirety along with transforming the venue each week to fit the climate and mood of each album.Boom BipBryan Hollon, aka Boom Bip, is a producer and musician who experiments with many different genres and has developed a sound of his own. His music is mostly instrumental, but over the course of his career he has collaborated with several vocalists. He is currently signed to Lex Records, which, until 2005, was a division of Warp Records. He has also had releases on the U.S. based label Mush Records. Boom Bip is also known for the remix work that he has done for many artists on several different record labels. Some of those artists include Peter, Bjorn and John, Amon Tobin, Hot Hot Heat, Mogwai, Four Tet, M83, Danny Elfman, Pet, Oasis, Empire of the Sun and Super Furry Animals.Hollon is originally from Cincinnati, Ohio but has relocated to the city of Los Angeles, California. His career began as a DJ on Cincinnatis WAIF and also as a DJ at a small club there called Ripleys hosting an evening of jazz, hip-hop and electronic music. He soon hooked up with New York producer DJ Osiris and Robert Curcio to produce The Low End Sequence EP, named after his evening at Ripleys. Not long after that he met rapper Doseone in the local clubs and open mic nights and they collaborated on their first album titled Circle for Mush Records. This album grabbed the attention of John Peel (who heralded Boom Bip as a modern day Captain Beefheart after his first Peel Session) and Gilles Peterson in the UK and soon they were a name in the British Underground Rap and Electronic scene.
