:: ABOUT THE ARTISTS ::
Sharing a love of the kind of raw, soulful “Springsteeneque” rock that inspires a teen to pick up a guitar and start a band, the Arkells formed in Hamilton, ON, 2006. The ambitious and prolific five-piece quickly found its groove, and recorded their debut EP Deadlines in 2007. Soon their after the band quickly caught the ear of Bedlam Music Management and Dine Alone Records (Alexisonfire, City and Colour, Bedouin Soundclash) who re-released Deadlines and began their coast to coast, country to country journey.
The Arkells’ first full-length ablum entitled Jackson Square features undeniably catchy tracks like “Ballad of Hugo Chavez” and “Oh, The Boss is Comin” which have both reached Top 10 on rock radio. Since their October release the band has traveled across Canada sharing stages with Pearl Jam, Tragically Hip, City and Colour, Metric, and Bedouin Soundclash. More recent performances have seen them leave Canadian shores to showcase at SXSW in Austin, Texas, New York City, United Kingdom as well as the Palm Springs Hotel in Las Vegas, NV for the 2009 NHL Awards.
Jackson Square captures the essence of the bands hard-hitting live show and their boundless passion for making meaty, rootsy rock that any listener can relate to.
