Century House

Locals have rallied together since 1971 to keep the Heritage District alive. The Heritage District, located between the Financial District and Gastown, has slowly been rebuilding the vibe it first began with. According to owner Sean Sherwood, designer of Century Restaurant and Bar, the area is really developing as a destination for dining and nightlife. The opening of Century Restaurant and Bar, set for February 2006, will provide an infusion of energy, style and elegance to a neighborhood once celebrated as Vancouver’s destination of choice.
The restaurant’s name was inspired by its location within a heritage building called “Century House”. Built as a bank over 100 years ago, Century boasts barrel vaulted ceilings, original Victorian chandeliers, a striking marble staircase, and a VIP vault room; showcasing the distinct architecture appreciated within the district. This classic, turn-of-the-century design is what inspired the Latin theme.
“We were awe-struck with the space and [we are] determined to be true to the architecture of the time. It was so reminiscent of Spanish churches we had seen in Peru and Havana; we instinctively knew we must have a Latin touch.” Sherwood said.
Sherwood’s modern Latin design blends perfectly with the original period construction. The walls are hand crafted to bring out a distressed effect, which are accented by restored original wood finishing, and exposed pillar beams. Mixed with leather and suede banquets, and glass stained light fixtures, Century immediately gives the feel of history and elegance.
