Science World British Columbia, a self-supporting non-profit organization, stimulates positive attitudes towards science and technology in a fun interactive environment, promoting the development of a knowledge-based society in British Columbia.

Science World houses five permanent galleries and a feature exhibition gallery in 4,275 square metres of exhibit space. We also have exhibits available for rent and sale.

Over the years, Science World has played host to many dignitaries and famous people. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II unveiled the Expo Centre as “Science World, a science centre for the people of British Columbia,” in October 1987. Former president of the Soviet Union Mikhail Gorbachev participated in a student forum at the centre prior to speaking at a fund-raising dinner for Science World in March 1993. Dr. Stephen Hawking, the famous physicist, visited in June 1993 to talk with some 150 students with disabilities. In 2000 Science World was recognized by the Quality Council of British Columbia for excellence in the area of Customer-focused Service.

In fall 2003 Science World was honoured to welcome Premier Gordon Campbell and more than 200 members of the life sciences community to launch the three-year national tour of The GEEE! in Genome exhibition, which ran at Science World for four months.

The most recent development in Science World’s ReGeneration was the opening of phase one of BodyWorks in the summer of 2004. BodyWorks is a permanent gallery devoted to the make-up and functioning of the human body. The entire BodyWorks Gallery is forecast for completion by fall of 2005.
