From the smart walnut paneling inside the elevator to the 21st floor of the landmark Sir Francis Drake Hotel, to the stunning color scheme of ruby reds and gold tones, everything about Harry Denton's Starlight Room exudes glamour and style. It's amazing to think it once served as a four bedroom apartment for the hotel owner of the early 1930's.
 

Collaborating with designer Arthur Valdez, Harry Denton created a fantasy room atop one of the city's historic hotels--an exciting nightclub with a 1930s feel-- plush and sophisticated, sexy and intimate. "In terms of style," says Valdez, "the room is part Maxim's in Paris, a touch of Vienna opera house opulence. Every detail is perfected, nothing overlooked. And, of course, it showcases a fabulous 300 degree view of San Francisco."

From the elevator, Harry's guests step out onto black granite floors surrounded by beautiful beveled mirrors and the soft light of a turn of the century chandelier. Then, into a vestibule topped with voluptuous gold, ruby, and olive silk drapery. An antique presentation table with an art nouveau base and a glass fleur de lys top is the first piece you see, with a mammoth display of Ecuadoran Roses, four dozen freshly cut long stem roses hiding the Biedermeier-style bar, done in black marble, granite and light blonde burl. Hundreds of yards of elegant drapery, complete with fringe and tassels, surrounds the room, framing the famous views in every direction. The main drape is a Scalamandre damask and silk stripe in soft ruby tones with gold and teal green running through it. The second fabric is a luxurious crimson hand rubbed silk.

A black, ruby and green Axminster carpet from London covers the floor, and the room glows with the light of nine chandeliers. Gold gilt-carved mirrors of thirty inch squares with small rosettes in each corner reflect the light and the view, giving the room an exciting sparkle.
